3 tips for effortless autumn school run style (that's quick to pull together)

Ahh, week day mornings, a hectic combination of cajoling little humans out of bed, trying to get yourself ready and constantly asking 'have you got xyz / have you done xyz?', it can be a bit of a stress out at times.

One thing I am going to miss about lock-down is the fact that mornings have been a far less harangued affair. But as autumn term fast approaches and a visit to Clark's for school shoes looms, I need to get my head back in the game of getting myself ready STAT!

So here's 3 tips to pull off effortless autumn school run style that's quick and easy to put together for busy mamas, enjoy!

The secret to great style quote

Tip 1 - please don't hate me, but... Get prepped

Getting prepped the night before is an absolute must. I know, I know, it's boring / obvious / has nowt to do with style, but if you want to pull off that 'effortless' look you need to plan ahead to make it easy breezy.

So set a night time alarm on your smart phone for after the littles are settled in bed, make this a non-negotiable time for you to prep for the next day. It's not just about picking out a cute outfit, it's about a nightly inventory of what you need to get done tomorrow: errands, household tasks, crap your littles need for after school clubs, work shit, etc.

Make this time your golden hour to brain dump all your 'frets about the future' aka tomorrows to dos, so you can sleep like a baby, unless of course you have a baby who, like my first, does not sleep peacefully - in which case the phrase morphs into 'sleep like a dad'.

No, this is not a style tip but it's the best piece of self-care advice I can give you that will help you create the best version of yourself. Yes, it does mean cutting short your #NetflixAndChill time, but trust me when I say you'll be thanking yourself in the morning, plus it'll save you from binge watching crap until something past midnight.

Tip 2. Stay in season

And no I don't mean 'this season's must have trends'. I mean clothes that are appropriate for the seasonal weather. Picking out something to wear is faster if you don't have lots of clutter, so store away summer clothes during winter and vise versa during summer. For spring and autumn you'll need a few transitional pieces but other than that try to keep your wardrobe in season.

Now that the mental load is somewhat reduced, let's get on to the fun stuff - fashion!

Tip 3.  All hail the... erm, dress? Enter the shirt dress

So, so versatile - the shirt dress. The perfect piece for hi/lo dressing and here's how you pull it off for the school run...

Shirt dress, Mint Velvet
The shirt dress is easy to dress up or down, layer under a knit to create a skirt effect or over jeans/leggings for that duster style jacket look.

Soft knit balloon sleeve jumper, The White Company
When the cooler, autumnal breeze picks up layer over a cozy knit for some extra warmth. This balloon sleeve knit is stylish yet causal and will pretty much go with everything (jeans, smart trousers, midi skirt, etc).

Faded denim jacket, The Meek Boutique
Always a classic, the vintage style denim jacket for a simple cover up. Plus, this online boutique is run by a mum local to me.

Canvas tote bag, Autism Treads
Handy for carrying any extra crap your littles need such as water bottles, reading records, sun hats, etc. or the post school snack for the ride home. Again, this business is run by another local mum AND each sale supports a charity - for me that's a triple win!

Rose gold sneakers, Veja at Office
Because a touch of glam is ALWAYS a good idea ;-) but seriously, I am totally loving metallic footwear right now, for many the rainbow motif has been their symbol of hope, for me it's rose gold shoes.

And finally, complete the look with jewellery using a bracelet stack from Keshinomi, to create a visually balanced gemstone bracelet stack opt for 3 bracelets of different textures/colour/sizes
Turquoise amazonite bracelet
Lapis Lazuli stretch bracelet
Blue aventurine friendship bracelet
