Admitting a few years ago that I liked self-help books felt kind of like admitting I had an extensive stamp collection on display in a spare bedroom in my house. It just wasn’t “cool”.
Since then, of course, the genre has had a bit of a makeover. It’s got millennial pink covers, swear words and over 1.5 million tags on Instagram. People don’t feel the need to hide their self-help books whilst on the train anymore and are instead shouting about them from the rooftops. Or are at least sharing them on their social media accounts!
I for one am pretty happy about this recent rise in popularity. After all, there’s nothing wrong with wanting a little bit of help in your life. And if you have the opportunity to take that help from an expert, why wouldn’t you? It’s a genre that allows you to have a look into the worlds of people that have found ways to make their careers, love lives, organisational skills or anything else that little bit more fulfilling or manageable. There really is a self-help book for every person and every need.
So, whether you’re a seasoned self-helper or are new to the genre, I thought I’d share some of my favourite books for every area of your life.
All of them are vibration raising, full of great advice and - most importantly - are not a total bore to read!
To attract more money
Jen Sincero is the anti-self-help queen. Her books are littered with hilarious anecdotes, witty remarks and no BS advice. They’re great for people just getting into the genre, because they don’t fall into any of its usual, cringe-inducing stereotypes.
You are a Badass at Making Money is the one that should be on your list if you want to attract financial abundance. Teaching the “law of attraction” in her usual straight-talking way, Jen discusses how to align your actions around money with your desire to have more of it, and how to overcome the societal conditioning that we shouldn’t want it.
We recommend pairing the book with our citrine wish bracelet to attract monetary abundance.
To attract self-love and confidence
Many of us spend our lives at war with our bodies. We diet, force ourselves to go to exercise classes that we don’t enjoy (spin class, I’m looking at you) and generally pick ourselves apart. If you want to break that cycle, Body Positive Power might be the book for you.
In it, Megan Jayne Crabbe - or “BodyPosiPanda” as the internet knows her - discusses how we can make peace with our bodies and spend our time living instead!
We recommend pairing the book with our Rose Quartz Wish Bracelet to attract unconditional self-love.
To attract calm
Calm: Calm the Mind. Change the World. is a self-help guide, meets practical exercise book, to help you overcome a stress-based mindset.
Michael Acton Smith introduces the tenants of more mindful and slow living, whilst also providing real-world and practical examples of how to implement them into your daily life. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to re-gain control in an overwhelming world.
We recommend pairing the book with our Fluorite Wish Bracelet to attract inner peace.
To attract more time for what you love
Sarah Knight’s book Get Your Sh*t Together has become infamous in the self-help world. Much like Jen Sincero, she takes a no-nonsense approach to teaching.
Of course, all of us have the same hours in a day. But Sarah discusses how to maximise that time by learning “how to stop worrying about what you should do, so you can finish what you need to do and start doing what you want to do.” It’s the kind of book that will encourage you to focus on what you truly want in order to achieve your goals, showing you how to cut them down into doable, daily tasks.
We recommend pairing the book with our Carnelian Wish Bracelet to attract the courage to do what you love.
To attract your every desire
This final book is for anyone whose big life goal doesn’t fit into the above categories. Want to open up a Guinea Pig farm in the south of France? Great! This is the one for you.
The Universe Has Your Back is part self-help, part memoir, following the transformational story of Gabby Bernstein, who went from “fear to faith”. In it she teaches readers how to put their trust in the universe and to follow their wildest dreams to lead to a more fulfilling and love-filled life.
Who wouldn’t want that? It’s a New York Times Bestseller for a reason!
We recommend pairing the book with our Green Aventurine wish bracelet to attract the luck and prosperity in any area of your life.
And now it's over to you
