I know that skinny jeans have been a go to staple in our wardrobes for what seems like for-ev-a!But is its charm beginning to wain as it becomes relegated to replace what was the 'mom jean'?
The original 'mom jean' has been rising as the jean de jour. So how do real 'moms' make the original 'mom' jean look cool and not mummsy, and what other styles can we replace our skinnies with?
I live in my skinny jeans
It's 7:45am and I'm in rush. I have five minutes to get ready because baby Blake decided this morning was a good time to fill his nappy not once, but 3 times, and India (toddler going through terrible twos) is threatening a melt down if I even approach her with a brush and comb. I'm still in my underwear - I need to look decent and fast, well, at this stage dressed will actually do just fine. So what do I do?
Skinny jeans + nice-ish top + boots.
So is that why I see so many mummies wearing them? They are easy to wear with anything and everything! Pair them with:
- slouchy jumper + Converse trainers = play date at the park.
- sparkly vest top + heels = drinks with the girls.
- floaty tunic + knee highs = family lunch out.
The no brainer combos are endless.
It's time to switch-off auto pilot!
Seriously, I know it's going to be hard so I'll let you keep your absolute favourite pair, but the rest have to go so you don't grab them while on auto polit. But I'm not a total fashion bitch so here are my ideas for our new go to jeans.
You're welcome :)
The cool girl's mom jean
Vintage style denim culottes as seen on Ferne
On Instagram I recently spotted Ferne Cotton wearing a very similar pair to these Life In Progress™ denim culottes at Forever 21, complete with a frayed hem for that 'I found them at Greenwich Market' look but without the rummaging! An absolute bargain at £23.
If you're looking for an alternative to the high waist of the 'mom' jean then check out Allsaints' relaxed fit chino style black jeans - these could easily become our summer go to staple! A slight splurge at £108
High class 70's style
Want to channel your inner Posh girl? Then 7 For All Mankind's Ginger is your jean with a dramatic wide leg and high waist, it nails the 70's look with class. A splurge at £180.
